Andrew Putnam Milestone 1

  1. First of all, I love the colors of Simpkin. They're definitely not the usual color you see for a demon, and you did well with the combinations. The silhouettes of your characters are nice too. Just one thing I'm not sure is if you finished the coloring on Sholto Pinn or not. I'm thinking no, but seeing that you colored his skin and assuming that you want him wearing all white, I'd suggest having at least subtle changes in the type of white used throughout his suit..
If you're not finished, then ignore that comment. (: Good job overall.

  2. These are really awesome! I like the sketches you went with to fully render. One suggestion I would have would be to experiment with the simkin's feet a little more, I really like the hands and I would like the feet be just as interesting. Its a little easier to see what the feet are doing in the top right sketch. Overall these are really awesome characters! Great work!

  3. Hey good job man, I like the menacing pose of the demon. Great job on the Pinn too i feel like his weight placement and head position read a lot better than before. The only thing i can think to mention is that his right foot looks kind of big compared to his left foot.

  4. Have you heard of Fatman from Metal Gear Solid? That big dude reminds me a lot of him, which makes me like him more. He's looking nice so far. Really pay attention to the shape of the feet, the one facing the viewer looks fat, make me think of more of a cholo/thug type person.

The monster design is cool, definitely something I've never seen before. My next thought when I saw it, is the way the feet are, it looks like if he took one wrong step he would stab his achilles and be out of service. The colors are interesting, almost inviting and happy, kind of heightens his appeal.

  5. The designs for both are really good. My only critiques are kind of nit-picky. For Sholto Pinn, the grey background and the color and value of his skin tone are almost exactly the same, so when I squint I almost lose his face completely. Consider throwing a white vignette or adding more contrast to his face to fix that.

Sholto Pinn's shoulder's seem a little too narrow. If you want to keep that overall tapered shape, consider making his head just a teeny bit smaller.

The monster looks good, but pay attention to his legs and feet. Look at dinosaur or bird anatomy if you're wanting to go more alien, or push the more human-like quality. While now, they're kind of in the uncanny valley. Also, if he's slimy and wet-looking, at some specular highlights and maybe toss on a texture overlay.

  6. Good work & good process for developing the designs. Continue working on more clearly articulating the shapes to create stronger, more visually appealing designs, using more straights and bold lines. Continue using reference as necessary to help make difficult areas like fabric folds, anatomy, and texture more convincing. What is the yellow-green mound on Simpkin’s back? It kind of reads like curly hair. But the skin coloration is really interesting because of the way you control it with neutral grays.
